North Surrey is a vital part of Greater Vancouver's economy, and many residents commute into other areas across the River such as New West, Port Moody, Coquitlam, and most parts of Greater Vancouver on a daily basis. The main traffic routes in and out of North Surrey are the Patullo Bridge from Whalley to to New Westminster, the Skytrain following a similar line into New Westminster and beyond all the way to Downtown Vancouver. The Fraser Highway connects North Surrey to Cloverdale and Langley BC Canada.
Whalley and all of North Surrey are transitioning toward being a significant part of Surrey City Centre as described in the Cultural Master Plan. Residents have been concerned about maintaining a strong residential base in the area.
